Raw data! WINDOWS Magazine is publishing the test results for all the desktop systems and notebook computers we've reviewed in the last year, in a variety of formats.
The best way to view this data, is to exit your browser and launch your spreadsheet, word processor or database program, opening the file of interest to you. We are offering links here, but
"Setting associations" means adding capabilities to your browser by configuring it to call another program to handle a specific kind of data. For example, you might set up Excel viewer to display .XLS files. The concept is basically the same as defining data file types in Windows 3.1's Program Manager or Windows 95's Explorer: you associate a file extension with the appropriate program.
To give you specific instructions on how to create all these associations would be time-consuming, complicated and redundant, since there are three main file types and four supported browsers, and we have no way of knowing which file type and browser you want to use.
So, if you're experienced with your browser or technically inclined, by all means, set up associations and link directly to these files. Otherwise, open the program of your choice, read them in, and enjoy yourself!
This is the compiled list of Wintune scores for every notebook and desktop system reviewed in First Impressions and Product Comparisons in Windows Magazine in 1995 (files starting with 95) and during 1996 (files starting with 96).
As of February 1996, MFLOPS scores are no longer being recorded. Also as of February, the First Impressions section has been merged with the general Reviews sections.
Many of the units tested in First Impressions were pre-production units, so the scores may not be reflective of the shipping product. The prices are as reviewed and have not been updated.
